Desire brings upon suffering and the extreme
yogi would starve in pursuit of enlightenment, however this is not the path for
the many. We have seen the great west prevail in an ideological conflict that
spanned seven decades. We now have the task of formulating and summoning adherence
a social contract binding the world over. In our search for the global peace, a
place where the free market can operate without hindrance, we need to iron out
the indifference held by a small portion of society. There are inevitably some
losers of the capitalistic system. There was bound to be. Some people gamble
their left savings on a brilliant idea. Some people lose their job in the
downsizing of western labor markets and increase in global outsourcing.
Whatever the case may be, there has to be a basic sustenance allowance in place
for those dire straits. Enough to cover a modest rental, some food, drink and a
means, an opportunity to have a new start. Maybe some TAFE or university for
those battling and willing to give it a go. Capitalism and communism have been
in battle for long enough. It is time to disarm and negotiate.
We are able to have a free country, free from
Imperial ties and free from oppression with the liberties of speech, religion
and market, while still ensuring some basic human dignity. There is no need to
beg, steal or kill. State intervention to supply to those who are really
disadvantaged and unable to compete without a helping hand. The promise of
endless support does in fact take away any little motivation to work and
compete in the rat race, however a little bit of tax money directed at those
who have been left to fester in the gutters world as a long way in preserving
the security of those who are able. In the pursuit of greatest happiness for
greatest number, we have to ensure that those that are unable to compete in a
free market have the right, the basic human right of sustenance. No matter how
much we try to limit our desire in the philosophy of right thought; right
action, every human in the world, including those in Nairobi and Bombay,
deserve to receive their basic sustenance. Following
Buddhist philosophy of right thought right action, it is only right to endeavor
to tax the rich and give out a basic sustenance to those that are
disadvantaged.
